Chitty Chatty in the lunchroom…

Well, I
volunteer at my son’s school during his lunch hour. The ladies in charge of the
lunch room and I got to talking about all the little conversation these amazing
little ones come up with. I have noticed that in 3rd grade they all
want to be the strongest and the bravest. Nothing can stop them and they like
to “show off” (if you will) their strength. Little girls are chattier and like
to chat with the boys at this age. There is even talks of who likes whom and
sitting in a tree songs. LOL
Then I got to
thinking… kids now at days mature so much faster then my generation did. I was
still playing with dolls and was allergic to boys at that age! Here they are
talking about who likes whom! So then comes the question… When is it time to chat
about these topics with our little ones? Now at days, with all the technology
our children are exposed to with information overload – what are we to do? My
philosophy is, I will explain enough to keep his curiosity on check and in
appropriate terms that he can understand, digest and that will not open up a
can of worms for him. I believe in keeping the kiddo innocence as much as I
can, but making sure that he knows to come to me at any time if he has a
question or doesn’t know what’s going. Open communication!
What are your
thoughts?? How do you deal with such chitty chatty!
